Final project

My final project is pretty much done. We talked to students in 3rd and 4th period and informed them about the AP coarse next year and what to expect, as well as college decisions and scholarship opportunities. We helped somewhat at the official orientation and I feel it's good that t it's a good way to get to know the coarse through a students eye.

4) I plan on just making a PowerPoint and talking to the students to inform them.

Literature as a conversation over time

1) I feel that she started off very strong beginning a essay with a quote is always a good and easy way to answer a prompt to a question. I feel that watching this video you can't help but take a bias to her because of her age you will give her extra kudos just because her writing is so deep and in depth for her age.

2) I feel like that from where she lives and in her shoes she believes every word she wrote. But maybe because I have never been where she is I can't take what she says as what I see as the truth because I have never seen a teacher be racist where I live. I have seen them take a bias to student athletes and I can see kind of where she is coming from.

3) I can see where she's coming from because I see it all the time with Righetti and it's student athletes and teacher treat them. I have never really seen racism in my life besides movies but I'm sure where she is from that is is prevalent and happens a lot. So I can't help but take her arguments and passion on the subject as the truth.

Ap progress

Today I didn't get as much done for ap as I would have liked I had tons of distractions but happened to do about 15 questions of multiple choice. I forgot to Check answers although so have yet to see how I've done on them.

Signs of times

I feel like what the students are doing is right. Why would the teachers want to limit what the students can and can't do. They shouldn't give the students the lab tops then not give them the free reign to do what they want on the internet its like giving a dog a huge back yard and then not let him run around. I think the teachers are teaching the students bad habits by not letting them have free reign on the Internet. I know that the teacher are worried about kids using the Internet for social networks and i think that by doing that they are crippling them for college and that if they let them and give them free reign then in college and in life they will be able to manage their time better. So I feel that the teachers are crippling them for life.

Today's progress

Today in class with the free time you gave us I made what I thought of as a good use of my time. I looked onto you blog and looked under the essay prompts. I wrote down the essays I thought I could respond to. I plan to use these essay prompts and in the next couple days do my best to respond to them. Also I talked with my partner to see what she will do and we plan to study together and go over multiple choice questions so that we will be best prepared to take this AP English test.

Essay prompts for MacBeth

1976 The conflict created when the will of an individual opposes the will of the majority is the recurring theme of many novels, plays, and essays. Select the work of an essayist who is in opposition to his or her society; or, from a work of recognized literary merit, select a fictional character who is in opposition to his or her society. In a critical essay analyze the conflict and discuss the moral and ethical implications for both the individual and the society. Do not summarize the plot or action of the work you choose.

1983 From a novel or play of literary merit, select an important character who is avillain. Then, in a well-organized essay, analyze the nature of the character s villainy and show how it enhances meaning in the work. Do not summarize plot.

1986 Some works of literature use the element of time in a distinct way. The chronological sequence of events may be altered, or time may be suspended or accelerated. Choose a novel, an epic, or a play of recognized literary merit and show how the author s manipulation of time contributes to the effectiveness of the work as a whole. Do not merely summarize the plot.

Spring break work

Over spring break I hate to break it to you Dr. P I didn't do much of anything I read MacBeth but didn't take active reading notes. I was constantly touring campus after campus and wasn't in the mood for notes. As you know I have pretty much made up my mind and will be attending Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska in the fall. Over the break visiting all these campus's made me think of my future and eventually to my death. I read a boom written by a group of college students title "What do you want to do before you die?" by The Buried life (must read very easy yet inspiring) it is a list f bucket list items they had and completed they also have many stories that bring you from laughing to crying to heart warming stories. Reading this book got me thinking and I wrote a bucket list I plan on completing before I die. I interpreted their theme as to do what you want to do in life not letting people determine your life to do what you want to do because there might not always be a tomorrow. And to live a full life doing what you want because tomorrow might not be there the next day. You are doing what you love to do in life and I'm sure you will look back on life after death and have no regrets it gave me a reality check and is motivating me to not only do things in school but to also experience life to the fullest. I think college is going to e a great experience for me and am very excited to be spending it at Creighton University.

Macbeth notes

Written 1605-1606

Very twisted and cynical story

Macbeth is a murderer

Mrs macbeth was the daughter of biote

The 3 witches represent weird, fate, and destiny

Story was written for king James

1040 Macbeth killed Duncan in battle
Then was killed by Malcom Duncan son

One of Shakespeare's favorite sources was Holinshed's Chronicles of the History of England & Scotland

"double, double, toil and trouble" is a famous line from the play

The story takes place in the dark ages
Shakespeare changed history to simplify complexities And the changes Shakespeare made to the story was to brown nose king James

The promise

This is a quote from Tim Tebow after he lost a game and lost his undefeated season I feel that he failed his fans and himself as a person, he was being mindful to everyone around him. The thought of failure made him want to make this promise to
Everyone and i feel this way for my performance in this class the pas week or so. So I make the promise to go back to my good working habits and work hard for you and be mindful to your passion you put into this class.

P.S. you have to read my journals with stars on the pages. They are the best journals and mean the most to me.

“To the fans and everybody in Gator Nation, I’m sorry. I’m extremely sorry. We were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida has never done here. I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless.”

This is a remix of "The Promise" that I wrote on a test I took in my stats class after we lost CIF finals.

Active reading notes Grapes of Wrath

Story starts off with a family in Oklahoma when the Joad family goes though the depression then decides to get better luck going to get work in California
The family goes through many rough times as the work in California isn't up to the standards the Joads were expecting
They jump from town to town and house to house finding new jobs by the day with Tom Joad trying his best to support his family the best he can
The family wants to travel where Tom goes but it doesn't seem to be working out as Tom feels he is bringing the family down with his choices and leads to his eventual leaving.
What forced Steinbeck I write this?
Are they from real time experiences?
What fueled Tom Joads extreme passion to help his family?
People often dont know what fuels a passion much like what we talked about in our sacratic seminar what fuels you to be passionate about something? Or fuels Toms passions?

Further knowledge summary

Summary:
Creativity sparks mind functioning and brain activity
Play time sparks creativity
To much shelter is bad
Need to find yourself can't learn from someone saying something, you need to experience it
What is knowledge? Wisdom?
How do you break something someone says and then do it
Make personal connections
Act on the knowledge. What good is knowledge if you don't use it
Relate to yourself
School isn't very relevant, so you have to apply yourself, have to experience it yourself
Testing doesn't prove everything (animal analogy)
Not Darwin's theory but the power of the rest of the world

1a) These aspects and way of learning are going to be easier to apply to life late in time when grades don't matter. It will be easier to apply because when your in college you pick what you want to do with your life. So everything you do for school will be easily applied to your career.
1b) I feel the knowledge we gain now is hard to apply to the AP test because it's not what we want to do. I think the key is to find a fun way a way that kids enjoy to learn the material. Not just read from the book but things that catch our eyes and make learning not only fun but easier. What teachers don't understand these days is that we live in a technological world so learning is easier through technology.
1c) I think like I said in 1b that making learning in a more enjoyable way is the only way I feel you can inspire kids in this age to learn.

Life in a love (remix)

"I believe that the poem is about a man who is in love with a women and obviously can not recieve that love back. In real life, however, he does eventually get her. So, the love is unrequited. Although I believe most of it is depressed rambling. But other I think the poem is a surpessed passion."

.: :.

"I don\'t think it\'s a poem of unrequited love; at the end he appears to use the home as a metaphor for the woman\'s body - \'Such closets to search, such alcoves to importune\'. This last line seems to suggest he does get her in the end, and is able to \'explore\' her. Browning also describes the time as \'twilight\', a time of courtship, mystery and romance, and now that this time has come, he has now has found the elusive woman."

I chose to remix my analysis of my poem by taking two different analysis to better understand the concept in a different eye. What a remix if not a Different way to understand the same idea.

Literary analysis The Catcher in the Rye

1) The Catcher in the Rye is a story of a boy named Holden who has many troubled and difficult times in his life. He goes to a prep school which he hates and has many confusing thoughts about the people there. He has very strong for a girl named Jane who his roommate is dating. He becomes furious with his roommate and gets into a huge fight. He then decides to leave the school and live in New York and live his life on his own. He goes to New York and first feels alone and decides to go to gentlemen's clubs where he can pass as an older man because of his gray hair. He runs into many troubles in New York in finding himself and ends of having many confrontations with his family in order to be reaccepted.
2) The main theme in the book Catcher in the Rye is the pain in growing up. Holden doesn't want to grow up and shows that in many things he leaves the prep school so that he could try and grow up more. But as he learns the troubles of being a man while growing up in New York he finds that he doesn't want to grow up. He lives and constantly parties which shows how he never wants to grow up.
3) The tone in Catcher in the Rye is very relaxed at times and also very serious. When Holden gets into a heated argument with his roommate and later into a brawl with him to the tone is very serious. It's also serious when he goes to talk to his younger sister he also has a serious tone.
4) Characterization is used very well in describing the character of Holden it really let's you get to know him on my levels and lets you into his emotional state. Setting is used also well when describing night clubs in New York Salinger goes into great debt in describing the scene as well as the way girls and guys both behave which plays into the setting of the club.

Ap test expectations

The test on the 3 essays was not as difficult as I expected. I did expect it to be all about main characters and their experiences in the novel. Nothing was much unexpected I wouldn't think but I did find it difficult to manage my time with a short period of time. I learned that the ap essay topics don't want specific details but rather your feelings or what you got from a character. I felt my performance in the clutch was rather good I don't crumble under pressure and can usually focus when I need to.

Tale of Two Cities

Manchester was the 3rd city involved
In 1857 Dickens assisted in writing and acted in the play The Frozen Deep
There's a sort of parallelism between A Tale of Two Cities and The Frozen Deep
In 1858 he became known as the greatest reader of the greatest writer
Was inspired to write Tale of Two Cities from his childhood growing up in London
London and Paris are the two cities
Was written around the French Revolution
Dickens didn't really like the revolution but interesting enough incorporated it all in the novel Tale of Two Cities
when he visited Paris he thought it was the most amazing place and he visited it more then 15 times
The novel came out chapter by chapter not all at once
Many of the characters in the novel were based off of real life people Dickens knew

Why he wrote it

Charles Dickens wrote the novel Great Expectations in order to depict not only his life but the life of a orphan or poor person in England At that time. Pip is supposed to represent Dickens lifestyle and the struggles that he went through. I also think that maybe he wrote it so that it could inspire other poor people to do something with their lives, since the novel was written in the language of the poor maybe he wanted to teach them something.

Great Expectations (study questions)

4) Why doesn't the convict "throw Pip under the bus" why does he protect him?
5) Why is Estella so rude to Pip?
A: She does not approve of his low social class.
6) Why does Pip lie to Joe about what happened at the mansion?
A: He does it to seem cool but feels guilty and tells Joe the truth later.
7) Why does Joe give Pip a pep talk?
A: He wants Pip to be successful in life.
8) Why does Pip decide to try much more in school?
A: He is taking Joe's advice to heart.

10) Why does it seem like Estella hates everyone?

Great Expectations

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is one of the few story's that depict Charles Dickens actual life he loved when he was growing up. He grew up as a young boy who fought poverty often. The story begins in England where a boy named Philip Pirrip (Pip) is described as a poor orphan boy, much like Charles Dickens childhood. Pip is looking at his parents gravestones in the graveyard when suddenly a man in chains grabs him and forces Pip to bring him food and something to cut through his chains. All of these thigs that happen in the beginning of this story make you think what kind of life Charles Dickens actually led. This makes you also think what parts of his life did he also include into his other novels because he lived such a different life that maybe there are other parts of his life he includes in his other great novels.

Dickens Novel "Great Expectations"

I think Charles Dickens titled his book Great Expectations because he expects the orphan Pip to persevere over his circumstances and achieve great things hence the name "Great Expectations".

Inspirational Poem

Don't Quit

by: Unknown Author

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit.
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns.
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out:
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are.
It may be near when it seems so far:
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Reasons: this poem is very inspirational and can relate to anyone it speaks to you telling you to stick with it and always have faith and to never give up on anything.

Abstract Big Question

Q: How does music affect people?

Background: Music has been around for millions of years since the beginning of time people made music with any items they could find in order to entertain themselves.

Need: The need for music varies person to person. Some people devote their lives and have music in everyday of their life, but some people do not have music in their lives as much. But regardless if you enjoy music a lot or not as much music is a part of every persons life.

Purpose: Music has a way of affecting people in such a way that they act and change their feelings just by listening to a song. I am very interested in why music affects people psychologically and want to do research to figure out why it makes people act a certain way.

Organization: When researching for any topic you have to make sure you have creditable sources. Once i have all the sources I need for my Big Question i will organize it into a easy and well organized research paper.
